Instrument 2 · Turnover
Turnover is not the same as loss
Turnover adds up every bet, including bets made with money already won. The net result is what the session left you with. The two can be very different numbers.
- Turnover
- $200.00
- Net result
- −$12.00
- Starting money bet over
- 4.0 ×
Worked by hand, with the defaults
- Turnover: 200 spins × $1.00 = $200.00.
- Net result: $38.00 − $50.00 = −$12.00.
- The $50.00 at the start was bet over 4.0 times: $200.00 ÷ $50.00.
Why turnover is bigger
Any win that is bet again counts towards turnover a second time. So turnover keeps rising with every spin, even when the balance barely moves.
Why it matters for cost
The expected cost is a share of turnover, not of the money you started with. Over a long session, a modest starting amount can be bet several times over; the hour instrument turns turnover into expected cost.
