Limits in numbers
A money limit and a time limit describe the same session in two ways. This instrument converts one into the other at the expected rate, and shows why the average is only a guide.
- Expected cost per minute
- $1.00
- Minutes until the money limit is used up, on average
- 40 min
- Spins within the time limit
- 600
- Expected cost within the time limit
- $60.00
Worked by hand, with the defaults
- Expected cost per minute: 10 × $1.00 × (100% − 90%) = $1.00.
- Money limit $40.00 ÷ $1.00 a minute = 40 minutes, on average.
- Time limit 60 minutes × 10 = 600 spins; expected cost $60.00.
The average is not a schedule
Losses do not arrive at a steady rate. A money limit can be reached well before the average time, or not at all; the spread instrument shows the range for an invented game.
